ah, great...I use that same auto siphon, so I will give it a try with the whole hops. Last batch I jammed hop plugs, in a weighted bag, down the 5 gal carboy throat...total pain to get out after!

On batch size, I noticed Williams Sonoma is selling a one-gallon kit...hardly enough for a single evening with the wife!

Hi Ray - thanks for stopping by. We use the Fermtech auto siphon for racking. It comes fitted with a cap on the end that is quite good at keeping out whole hops without any additional filter.

But we just killed the Half Nelson -- the only drawback of the small batch size is it doesn't last long. Time for another brew day!

That batch sizing is an interesting idea...I never thought of that before. Sounds like a great recipe, I love those Nelson hops. Hey, when you dry hop whole hops in the carboy, what is your technique for racking? Do you put a hop bag over your racking cane or something? Great blog, thx
